At the bottom of Salon’s Galactica primer we found this:

It's also worth nothing that the name Kobol is a slight derivation from Kolob, the dwelling place of God in Mormonism, and the Quorum of Twelve, one of "Battlestar's" governing bodies, shares a name with a governing council of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

Also, for the record: we’ve read all the update and primers, and seems like the big cliffhanger this year will be “Who’s the final Cylon?” We’ll take a stab at it and suggests it's probably Zak Adama, Apollo’s brother and Starbuck's boyfriend who was killed before the mini-series opened.
